The Portuguese talent factory that is Benfica, continues to produce with Goncalo Ramos. After selling Darwin Nunez in the summer, Ramos was the next man up for Benfica and he has produced very well. In 19 league games he has scored 15 goals, two of which came in a man of the match performance vs rival Sporting. In Champions League, he’s scored 7 goals in 12 games. Just this week he scored two goals in a crucial game vs Brugge including a mazy run in the box to get past four defenders and slot it by the keeper.
Not only did Ramos have the daunting task of replacing Nunez, he was also called upon to start in place of Cristiano Ronaldo in the World Cup Round of 16 match. Here he stunned just about everyone with his performance. He showcased his goal scoring abilities with a hat trick! First goal rocket (see video, need I say more?), second goal a great poaching run for a tap in, and third a clinical finish 1v1 with the keeper. These are the types of goals Ramos can generate.
All of his goals have been inside the box and mostly with his right foot. He’s got a knack for the back of the net when he gets it in close. He times his runs to perfection and knows how to pick his spots.
